New Jewelry

I have heard that a lot of crochet craft booths end up having a lot of jewelry for sale.  In the last week, I decided to give it a try.  The first thing I created was a rose ring.

It was super easy to make!  And the cuteness factor is out of this world!

Yes it's July, but I have decided I will talk about Christmas since it's 6 months away.  My little sister, who is modeling, told me that she wanted some crochet jewelry for Christmas.  Since this is my first attempt at crocheting jewelry, I was hoping that it would be a quick and painless.

Because the ring was simple and easy, I felt like jumping into another portion of jewelry making with crochet: earrings.  This one requires size 10 cotton thread and super SUPER small needles.  Small enough that I can barely see the hook portion.  Another first: working with small needles.

After trial and error using the size 7 needle, I gave up on using one so small.  (Yes, I know...Quitter.)  But the needle was too small and cramping my hand.  I shifted the needle to a size 1.  It was slightly bigger and worked just as well.

This is the two sets of earrings I have created out of a beautiful green and red sparkly thread.

Sorry for the black grid.  This is what I am going to use to display them on my booth.

I say that it is a great first try.  Needs some work, but those flower ones are so adorable even I would wear them.  Keep watching my etsy store.  You may find different colors of that flower one available for purchase.

Shape Buddies

I saw a pattern for a set of shape buddies somewhere.  I can't exactly remember where.  Maybe Red Heart?  Who knows!  Anyway.  I LOVED the idea of providing a toy that a toddler could easily pick up and carry around.  It didn't need to be elaborate.  Just simple.

Presenting Rectangle Shape Buddy

He measures 12 inches by 10 inches!  Someone told me that he looks like Spongebob.

He is available in my etsy shop at: https://www.etsy.com/listing/102534217/rectangle-shape-buddy

In the next few weeks, I will be adding other shape buddies to my shop.  Keep watching for them!

Crazy Week

When it rains it pours!  This is so true for me.  The other day we were laying in bed when we hear a crash.  This is unfortunately normal since our youngest kitty (who just turned 1 year and 2 months) loves to knock things over.  What we were not expecting to hear was gallons of water gushing all over our kitchen floor.  Arion had knocked the mixer off a shelf and onto the drain spout for the water heater.

Yeah that's the little guy!  So...we jump out of bed at 4 in the morning and run to the kitchen.  We turn off the breaker.  We search for a turn off valve on the water heater and can't find one.  We turn off EVERY faucet in the house in hopes to stop the flow.  By 4:45 we realize that there is no way to turn the water off inside.  So...we take a flashlight that is barely working (the batteries are dying) and search the outside of our rental.  Nope...nothing.

I try to call the landlord.  He has his cell phone off.  UGH!  Right.  So I get into my car and drive to his house which is just down the road.  He doesn't answer after four knocks.  I have no clue what to do so I decide to go back home.  Going up a dirt hill, my car stalls.  It barely starts.  It chugs along home barely going.  It apparently isn't my night!  So...I get home...and my car is still acting up.  There is still water gushing out.  And I just want to sit in my car and cry.  Well...my roommate is inside frustrated with the water heater.  I am outside frustrated with my car.

I take a paint roller and a trash bag to shove into the hole that is gushing water.  It stops most of the flow.  My car on the other hand won't work.  My husband gets stuck at work for the night...on a busy weekend (he works at a hotel).  So he doesn't get any sleep.  I get 30 minutes here and there waiting for the landlord's phone to be turned on.

Finally...at 11 o'clock his phone rings.  It takes him two hours to come shut off the water.  Maybe he thought  "There is water gushing out of our water heater" as "We have a small leak."  One thing down.  I go to sleep for 2 hours.  Unfortunately, I am so upset I cannot go back to sleep.

So...we go all day without water...without a car.  And it's 5 a.m. the next morning.  Roughly 24 hours after the water heater and my car broke down.  I am sitting alone in almost darkness in my living room working on my novel.  I hear taps against the lower portion of our rental.  Okay...wild animal.  No big deal.  Then it climbs up on my porch.  The screen door opens and BANG BANG BANG.  I am startled.  I go..."Who is it?"  A woman's voice comes back mumbling her name.  "What?" I say.  She says her name.  "I don't know you." AKA I am not coming to the door and go away.  She says she knows that I don't know her.  She says I have been walking forever.  AND? I say in my mind.  I refuse to open the door at night to people I don't know.  Call it 4 years in a metropolitan city and a robbery on the doorstep incident.

She continues to knock for 15 minutes.  When she starts messing with my door handle and trying to get into my house I call the police.  Yeah...The one time I did.  I slip into a bedroom and wake my roommate.  He is on edge like me when he finds out why.  The dispatcher asks me to look out the window to see if I can see her.  That is when I notice she had gotten into my car.  My door was open and the light was shining.  Am I angry?  OF COURSE!  What type of person comes to someone elses house, bangs on the door, tries to come inside and breaks into a car at 5 in the morning?  Apparently that woman does.

So the cops show up about 5 minutes after they are called.  That's fine.  We live in that type of area.  The woman quit knocking like a minute before they get here.  They search the neighborhood and can't find her.  Like really?  So I have no one to charge with breaking into my car.  Nothing was stolen, but it's the principle.

Within 24 hours I had a water heater bust and flood my kitchen.  My car breaking down.  AND my home attempted to broken into and my car actually broken into.  Just wow.

I have had such a STRESSFUL last few days.

Early Christmas

Okay...I admit.  I always seem to want to create Christmas in any month by crafting or purchasing discounted Christmas presents.  What can I say?  I love saving money.  And with such a large family to purchase for, it is awesome to save money.  This is the year I wanted to make a majority of the gifts I give.  A tall order for sure!  But one of the ways I have decided to provide that gift giving is by providing each family with a set of crocheted Christmas ornaments.

I have searched pattern after pattern and blog after blog looking for the perfect ornaments.  Some of them have not been living up to my standards.  So I just improvise and make my own.  Here are two such examples:

The Christmas stocking ornament!  It is open at the top so little (maybe sparkly) gifts can be slipped inside.

Mittens!  This one has yet to be attached to a second.  This is just the prototype of my pattern.  It is also open on the top.

There was a tradition in my husband's family each year.  Certain ornaments would have a candy hidden in them.  The children were allowed to pick an ornament and see if there was a candy in it.  I think this is a cute idea.  For those families who prefer not to give out candy or chocolate, the stocking provides enough room to put a different reward like crayons or chalk.

These will probably be available in my Etsy shop around October for purchase.

Accessories

For some reason, my stock of accessories keeps filling up further and further.  Not complaining though!  Recently I created a lanyard clip.  For anyone that doesn't know what that is...it is an i.d. badge holder.  It comes with a clip at the bottom and you just slip the i.d. sleeve on it.  Well...I saw that these were popular to purchase as crochet, so I made one.

I have more planned for the future.  What designs would you like to see?

Another accessory is the wonderful hair snaps.  Yes...the easy and beautiful way to put your hair back.  The clips I bought online came all the way from China, so it took at least two weeks to get here.  They estimated the arrival at 6-8 weeks!  Wow.  Either way, I finally took the time today to make some flowers.

Here is the results:

Pink mini flowers!  I love these the best.  They are just adorable.

Hoot Hoot!

One of the more important and marketable items that I seem to make is anything to do with is....Yep you guessed it....Hooters!  LOL!  Owls.  I  have tested multiple patterns, but most of the time I end up going my own way.  Like everything else.  (Yes I have to forge my own path.)  Recently I had an order to make two owls, so I decided to share some pictures of the Hooters I have crocheted.

I have to say...after all those orders, the newest version (at the beginning of the post) is my favorite design.

Star Stitch Washcloth

Hello everyone!  Again, it has been ages since I posted.  I have had a lot on my plate!  I recently received my first order through Etsy.  A beautiful star blanket.  I am on the last few rows, and I will get to post the amazing photo of this blanket.  I cannot wait until it is done.

I published my first real pattern today: Star Stitch Washcloth.  You can find it on Ravelry at the link below.  Here is a photo of it:

The Love Bunny

I was originally going to skip crochet for Valentine's Day, since it was so close to Christmas and Easter.  But someone *cough Chris cough* talked me into it.  So...here is what I am selling this Valentine's Day.  I already have 3 orders.  Does taking an order from a family member count as an order?

Anyway!  With much ado...

THE LOVE BUNNY

YAY!  So cute.  I am working on a smaller size as well.  With the smaller size I might get more orders.

So Long 2011

2011 was a rough year and an amazing one all together.  Christian finally arrived and has been with us 7 months.  He isn't liking the colder temps.  LOL!  Thankfully, my whole family is alive.  We had many scares over the year.

It was one of those necessary trips that I found the source of my chartiable venture for 2012.  There is an orphange in Sevierville.  :)  I crochet dolls and beanie/hat sets.  I know what I will be doing during the year to provide to them.  If they can accept the homemade objects.  It makes me sad to think that there is many children in there that have no home.  I would LOVE to adopt, but the fees are outrageous.  What happened to the time when a child who had no family could just find a family without paying 20 thousand dollars?

Here is hoping that you have a wonderful 2012. :)
